Fortified Wine of the Year at 2024 Halliday Wine Companion Awards

The 2024 Halliday Wine Companion Awards saw the NV All Saints Estate Rutherglen Museum Muscat earn a perfect score of 100 points and the varietal award for ‘Fortified of the Year’. The hard-earned accolade of Fortified Wine of the Year is the first Halliday Wine Companion award under fourth-generation winemaker Nicholas Brown. Brown took over as Chief Winemaker in 2007 and steers all winemaking and viticulture pursuits for All Saints Estate and its sister properties.

The NV All Saints Estate Rutherglen Museum Muscat is a masterful blend of both the richest and rarest stocks in Australia that have been matured for over a century, giving the muscat its deep, treacle-like colour and intense aroma. On the Museum Muscat, esteemed wine writer Jeni Port says,

“The first rule of tasting ASE Museum Muscat is, don't spit. Ever! The second rule is to sit back and drink it all in, figuratively and literally. That perfume, so ethereal, aromatic, and lasting. The flavour that stays with you, the concentrated intensity of old and mature age parcels of wine and the brightness of youth come together in treacle, soused raisins, dried fig, butterscotch toffee, honey drizzled sticky pudding and nutty nougat. The blender's hand is foremost in the use of neutral fortifying spirit to bring everything to a wonderful culmination that lights the senses.”

The release of the 2024 Halliday Wine Companion also saw All Saints Estate retain the hard-earned accreditation of Five Red Stars for its sixteenth year. To achieve five red stars, a winery must regularly produce wines of exemplary quality and typicity and have at least two wines rated as 95 points or above. Surpassing these criteria, All Saints Estate achieved no less than eight wines rated as 95 points or higher.

Moreover, All Saints Estate was nominated for ‘2024 Winery of The Year’, a testament to not only its fortified wines, but the broader portfolio of red wines and blends. On the nomination Nicholas Brown says,

“Just to be nominated was an incredible endorsement. It means we are now known not only for our beautiful, fortified wines but our fresh, balanced, new-generation table wines. A more modern approach to grape growing and winemaking allows All Saints Estate to showcase more aromatic and fruit-forward styles of wines. “

All Saints Estate’s sister winery, St Leonard’s Vineyard, known for its alternative and aromatic varieties earned 93 points at the Awards night for its flagship wine, Wahgunyah Shiraz. The 2021 expression is described by Jeni Port as having a “velvet like density, lingering finish and elegance”.
