Fortified Muscadelles from their national birthplace in North East Victoria are revered by connoisseurs and pleasure-seekers alike. They are classified by blend age to mark the dazzling progression in richness and intensity as older stocks are blended in from barrels in our midified solera system. Fortified wines are aged in barrel and not intended for lengthy maturation in bottle. They best consumed within 18 months of purchase.
Originally thought to come from the Hungarian Tokai variety, it is now accepted that the style is made from the Muscadelle grape, a white variety. The long, warm Autumn days in Rutherglen allow the fruit to ripen to the high Baume levels and raisining so essential for the style.
Rutherglen Muscadelles are classified into four tiers that mark a progression in richness, complexity and intensity of flavour due to the age of the wines used. Our fortified classification at All Saints Estate is:
- Rutherglen Muscadelle 5-8 years
- Classic Rutherglen Muscadelle 12-14 years
- Grand Rutherglen Muscadelle 20-25 years
- Rare Rutherglen Muscadelle 30+ years
