When crafting Merlot we aim for a soft medium bodied wine to showcase the soft plummy fruit character. We have crafted a wine showing medium purple colour with aromas of ripe fruit and some chocolatey character. On the palate the fruit is soft and balanced by gentle tannins.

Merlot is rightly popular because of its versatility with food, especially tomato-based Italian dishes, and it responds very well to the savoury tastes in many Mediterranean dishes. Try Italian style sausages with fennel and caramelised roasted vegetables.

Food Matching Merlot is rightly popular because of its versatility with food, especially tomato-based Italian dishes, and it responds very well to the savoury tastes in many Mediterranean dishes. Try Italian style sausages with fennel and caramelised roasted vegetables.
Variety Merlot is originally from the Bordeaux region of France where it is coupled to Cabernet Sauvignon in order to flesh out the blend. On its own it makes a rich, plump wine full of ripe berry flavours and soft tannins. It is generally well behaved in the vineyard, however spring is a nervous time as rain or windy weather easily spoils the flowering of this variety.
The Wine When crafting Merlot we aim for a soft medium bodied wine to showcase the soft plummy fruit character. 2011 was an awkward vintage but we have crafted a wine showing medium purple colour with aromas of ripe fruit and some chocolatey character. On the palate the fruit is soft and balanced by gentle tannins.
