The varieties were all picked and fermented separately in the old open concrete tanks at the castle. They were hand plunged then gently pressed out in our old basket press, and aged for 22 months in a combination of new (28%) and older premium oak prior to blending and bottling.
With its combination of fine tannins and great depth of fruit, this wine will benefit from a prolonged spell in bottle. It can be enjoyed now with all its lush and vibrant flavours, or laid down for up to a decade to develop greater complexity.
"A blend of cabernet sauvignon, merlot and cabernet franc first made '05 for patriarch Peter Brown to celebrate his 60th birthday; later that year he died in an accident, and this wine continues as a tribute by the family. The components are separately fermented in open concrete vats, hand-plunged and pressed in the 120-year-old basket press. It has excellent colour, and a truly impressive depth to its blackcurrant, redcurrant, plum and cedary oak, the tannins fine and ripe,
