"Rutherglen Table Wines

This edition of Wine Taste Weekly is dedicated to a dozen wines with an average price under $19. I spent last week in Rutherglen and I'm delighted to report that I've never seen Australia's fortified capital in finer form.

This week, I've lined up Rutherglen's best mixed dozen table wines. This region is showing its aptitude for textural wines from lesser-known varieties.

All Saints Estate 2012 Marsanne

All Saints cleverly puts this wine over the lees of the big boy and gives it a little time in oak, but the focus remains resolutely on the lifted fragrance of lemon blossom and frangipane. There’s a lemon butter and frangipane exuberance to the palate, too, held neatly in place by refreshingly focused crunchy pear fruit, tight acidity and lingering texture. 92pts"
