Terrace Restaurant, 15/20

315 All Saints Road, Wahgunyah, VIC 3687

A dining gem hidden inside a classic north-east Victorian winery

Few winery restaurants are as grand as this one. But then, few winery restaurants are built into actual castles. Follow the long, pebbled drive past a hedge-lined fountain into the cobblestoned entrance, and through the lees-scented All Saints Estate cellar door into the marquee-enclosed terrace. Here, decide on either two or three courses from the short, seasonal menu, and choose a glass from the All Saints-heavy wine list – suggested wine pairings are listed for each dish if you can’t decide. Perhaps your meal will start with seared scallops on a lick of cauliflower puree, brightened with a vadouvan-spiced dressing and native finger lime. For main course, you might choose the pink, juicy veal cutlet with anchovy and lemon butter on creamy white polenta, or maybe the charred spatchcock with cheeks of corn, fondant potatoes and a rich, roasty jus gras. It’s hard to look past the molten Valrhona chocolate fondant, although the pear tarte tatin makes a compelling case.

There are multiple accommodation options at nearby Mount Ophir Estate
