With so many upcoming events (see the back page for a list) we thought we’d give you some hot tips on where to visit when you’re heading to the region next.

If you’re coming from Melbourne, why not leave early and take a leisurely drive and make some pit stops along the way:

Fowles Wine in Avenel is just 90 minutes from Melbourne and have recently opened a new restaurant that’s worth a look. They are located at the corner of the Hume Freeway and Lambing Gully Road, Avenel.

Mitchelton Winery is a stone’s throw from Fowles and is right on the banks of the Goulburn River. They have a beautiful hotel with pool, spa, art gallery and relaxed restaurant too. They’re at 470 Mitchellstown Road Nagambie.

We may have some bias here but a visit to Brown Brothers is also worth a stop with a huge array of innovative wines to taste at Cellar Door and the relaxed Patricia’s Kitchen. There’s also a great playground for the kids! They’re at 239 Milawa-Bobinawarrah Road, Milawa,

Don’t forget to book dinner on Friday or Saturday night at Thousand Pound Wine Bar and Store. This buzzy bar is a slice of the city and there’s a big chance you’ll meet some local winemakers. 82 Main Street, Rutherglen.

If you’re looking for breakfast and a good coffee the next morning (before Indigo Food Co is open or course!) our picks are: Valentines Bakehouse at 126 Main St, Rutherglen or Doc Yarrum Café at 83 Sanger St, Corowa.

If you need a last minute gift or some flowers then head to Thistle and Fern, 111 Main Street, Rutherglen.

... and if you happen to be here on the first Saturday of the month, don’t miss fabulous and local live music at St Leonards Vineyard!
