Bright and vibrant with youthful hues, the real magic of this Australian red wine starts when you stick your nose in the glass… so pretty, so intense. Highly perfumed with almost Muscat-like rose petal and musk-stick aromas laced across the berry fruit. The palate is equally full; an upfront red-currant fruit bomb with a fresh structure of cherry-pip tannins and tight acidity. The finish is where the class of this dry red wine really comes through, long and complex, with leafy, herbal notes all bound up in fine tannin structure.
Grilled red meats or earthier dishes such as hand made sausages or duck risotto are perfect matches. The versatile blend of the Grenache, Mouvedre and Shiraz also lends itself to rich tomato based pasta dishes
The Grenache (43%), Mouvedre (29%) and Cinsaut (10%) were co-fermented while the Shiraz (18%) was fermented separately alongside. The caps for both were hand plunged 2-3 times a day during fermentation before pressing off only once in our 1883 wooden basket press. The gentle pressure of the basket press ensures the delicate style of the wine is preserved. The finished wine parcels were matured in 2-3 year old oak barriques and puncheons for 6 months, then blended just prior to bottling.
There is nothing new about this blend; Grenache (40%), Shiraz (33%), Mourvèdre (23%) and Cinsault (4%) are old bedfellows. In various combinations and with other players, they make the brilliant wines of the Southern Rhone region, especially Chateauneuf du Pape.
